The Cross-Eyed Possum is an identical twin-led Americana/Newgrass band that plays with the energy of a folk-rock band through the lens of intimacy created as an acoustic adjacent trio. Their music amalgamates their collective love for passionate rock ‘n’ roll, their experience with the free and honest feeling found in acoustic/bluegrass festivals, and their time spent dedicated to the adventurous tendencies of jazz and classical music composition while attending universities. The band is celebrating their second studio album, “Out On My Own.”
The Cross-Eyed Possum is an award-winning, nationally touring, and identical twin-led Newgrass/Americana band playing festivals and events such as Pickin’ in The Pines 2023 and the 40th Annual Huck Finn Jubilee. They feature vocal harmonies like Crosby Stills and Nash, display the technical proficiency of a band like The Punch Brothers, and write original music inspired by such groups and their dedication to jazz and classical music while attending universities. The band is celebrating their second studio album, “Out On My Own,” released in July 2023.
Experience
Jason Howard (upright bass and lead vocals), Jonah Howard (guitar and backing vocals), and Keenan Hammack (mandolin and backing vocals) banded together and won first place in the 2022 Pickin’ In The Pines Band Contest.
The group performs mostly original music written by the brothers Howard that was inspired by a mix of the wide genres of music they grew up with (Americana,
Rock n Roll, Bluegrass, Folk), their Jazz and Classical university experiences, and their life stories on the road.
The Cross-Eyed Possum has performed at Prescott, Arizona's Pure Imagination Festival and Ogden, Utah's Music Festival. They were pleased to share the bills with Fantastic Negrito, Katie Pruitt, Rising Appalachia, Sierra Hull, and Dawes. The group has performed at The Elks Theater and toured the Pacific Northwest, Tennessee, New Orleans, Texas, and Colorado in their van. They have a YouTube channel that shares these adventures, VanLifeBandLife.
